Mortality
Vultures circling a dead animal in the countryside is a common sight, this natural behavior of vultures helps to maintain the balance of the ecosystem by recycling nutrients back into the environment. With the vultures shown as a necklace they are a reminder of time and the circle of life. Mortality is designed through a process called champlevé. By cutting away negative space from copper and soldering two pieces together I am able to create small cavities to place powder enamel into. When the enamel is in the kiln and is headed it will then fuse to the copper and becomes glass. After each piece is complete, I create a sterling silver wire prong settings and links to hold the vultures, allowing them to circle around ones neck.
